Buenos Aires, Argentina
Buenos-Aires is a melting pot of art, food, music and culture. Walking around the San Thelmo district, I wandered into an old market hall. I was immediately inspired by the structure of the huge cathedral-like structure with many steel supports and the light, both from the stalls and the large windows in the roof.
The bustling day to day activity of the market contrasts with the lofty arches and beams. Whilst serving as a functional building it’s amazing how much attention had been given to the detail and decoration in the design.
I have returned to this place and this market several times in my work. Originally working in watercolours followed by other versions in acrylics. Finally I revisited the works to create the mixed media pieces you see above.
